1) Comfortable, High-Waisted Postpartum Underwear

Gentle on your skin and supportive, these are a must-have for your comfort and confidence.

2) Maxi Pads

In the initial days, you’ll need these. Opt for the softest, most absorbent ones you can find. These are the ones I used, and turned most of them into padsicles.

3) Peri Bottle

For those first bathroom trips, a peri bottle is a kinder way to keep clean without discomfort. I used this one for several weeks after birth.

4) Nipple Butter

Breastfeeding (nursing, pumping, etc.) can be tough on your nipples, making a soothing cream an absolute necessity. I had a huge stash of this on hand, and it was such a life saver.

5) Nipple Shield

When the nipple butter alone isn’t doing it, using shields like this in between feedings offers much needed relief.

6) Nursing Pads (Washable or Disposable)

To manage any leaks, nursing pads are lifesavers. The ones I used were not so discreet on me, so I adjusted my wardrobe a bit to hide this. I got mine from weareamma.com.

7) Comfortable Nursing Bras

Look for ones that offer support (not too tight) without sacrificing comfort or accessibility. You’ll want to size up to avoid discomfort. If you need to pump and nurse simultaneously, a pumping bra will be a huge help.

This is what I’d wear around the house. As far as what I’d wear when I wanted to feel more put together, you can get 15% off that one here (search “go with the flow”)

8) Tumbler

Staying hydrated is key, and a straw can make it easier to sip water throughout the day, especially during nursing sessions. Plus, a larger capacity means less trips for refills. This is my go-to.

9) Healthy Snacks

Keeping your energy up is crucial, so have a stash of nutritious snacks within arm’s reach. Click here for a list of 35 One Handed Snacks for Breastfeeding Moms.

10) Power Packed Juice

SO yummy, not sugary like store-bought juice, packed with antioxidants and minerals, supports all body systems perfectly (hello, first poop), and gives the body the nourishment it needs to feel energized and focused — this juice (use code SHAREYL for 10% off) was a godsend for me postpartum.

11) Baby Wrap

For those moments when you need your hands free and your baby close. Get 10% off my favorite one here — and I recommend getting two. You’ll want to have an extra when one is in the laundry.

12) Milk Collector

This will collect leaking milk on one side while you nurse on the other and catch leaking milk after you step out of the shower.

13) Pretty Front Button PJs

Things like skin to skin, nursing, and pumping are easier with front button pjs. Dressing in bright colors and happy patterns could also help you feel more like you during this time.

14) Nursing Pillow

Not only does this pillow offer extra support while nursing your baby, it’s also great to sit on while you’re still healing from birth — offering support in all the right places, and none of the wrong ones. I also bought waterproof liners and a couple extra covers.

15) Support System Contacts List

Your doula, midwife, chosen pediatrician, chiropractor, lactation consultant, best friend, or family — have your support network’s contact information easily accessible. You can also join my free Facebook group for support and encouraging words.

Remember, Momma: You’ve got this.
