Before diving into making simple, nutritious homemade baby food, remember these key rules. Check with your pediatrician before trying new foods. Solids are usually introduced around 6 months, but timing varies. Stick to single-ingredient purees and wait 3-5 days before trying something new to watch for allergies or sensitivities.

Simple Sweet Potato Puree

Sweet potatoes are an ideal first food for babies – sweet, soft, and easily digestible. Packed with vitamins A and C, plus fiber to ease constipation, they promote baby’s growth, strong eyes, and healthy skin.

Ingredients:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Herbs and spices (optional)
  • Breastmilk or water

Instructions:

  1. Wash, peel, and slice sweet potatoes.
  2. Boil the sweet potato slices in a large skillet with fresh, filtered water.
  3. Add herbs and spices to enhance flavors, if desired.
  4. Once cooked, transfer sweet potatoes to a food processor or blender.
  5. Gradually add warmed breastmilk or water to achieve desired consistency.
  6. Blend until smooth.
  7. Serve and enjoy!

Sweet potatoes are on the Clean Fifteen list for 2024, which means they’re okay to buy conventional (non-organic) if you’re on a budget. You can double check here.

Perfect Pea Puree

Peas are a fantastic source of protein, which can be very beneficial for a growing little one.

Ingredients:

  • Frozen or fresh peas
  • Breastmilk or water

Instructions:

  1. Boil fresh, filtered water in a tea kettle .
  2. Pour the boiled water over the peas in a glass measuring cup.
  3. Once cooled, transfer the peas into a food processor or blender.
  4. Gradually add a splash of warmed breastmilk or water until reaching the desired consistency.
  5. Blend until smooth.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

If the first try doesn’t go so well, try again in a week. Your baby’s taste buds are just as unique as they are – and they might have different tastes on different days.

Frozen sweet peas are on the Clean Fifteen list for 2024, which means they’re okay to buy conventional (non-organic) if you’re on a budget. You can double check here.

Protein Bonus with Chicken

Once your baby has been enjoying a variety of vegetable and fruit purees, you can consider adding some chicken for lean protein. It’s easy to prepare and beneficial for your little one.

The addition of breastmilk is especially helpful in this case since the chicken is much more difficult to digest for a baby.

Ingredients:

  • Organic, free-range chicken
  • Avocado oil
  • Herbs and spices (optional)
  • Breastmilk
  • Sweet potatoes, peas, or other vegetable of choice

Instructions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add avocado oil.
  2. Place the organic, free-range chicken in the skillet, season with herbal blend if desired, and cook until done.
  3. Prepare Simple Sweet Potato Puree or Perfect Pea Puree, adding cooked chicken into food processor or blender.
  4. Blend until smooth.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
