There’s a little bundle of joy on the way, and I know your heart is blossoming with love and anticipation.

When it comes to what to pop on that registry, think about the everyday cuddles and snuggles. Here’s my list of must-haves to get you started:

(I registered on Babylist since it allows items from more than one store/website to be added.)

  • A stroller! I have the Mockingbird.

  • A baby wrap to keep Baby close and Mom hands-free. (Use this link for a 10% discount on my top pick. I highly recommend having TWO, because babies inevitably spit up. This way you’ll have one on deck when the other is being washed. When selecting a color, consider your daily wardrobe. Opting for solid color wraps is likely your best choice.)

  • The Explore carrier from this site allows the baby to face forward – different from a baby wrap. It offers convenience while on the go, particularly as the baby grows older.

  • Car seat [Pro tip: you may consider going straight for the convertible car seat (this is what I have, but starting weight is 14 pounds). My little guy outgrew his infant car seat by 8 months.]

  • Burp rags for those little uh-oh moments.

  • A bedside bassinet, a snug spot for dreamland adventures. (I used this one, but the ‘feet’ were a bit of nuisance.)

  • Soft and cuddly infant blankets perfect for keeping your baby cozy. These are muslin cotton and nice and big. These are also oversized and keep Baby covered and cool.

  • Pacifiers! You may want to try different shapes to see what your baby prefers. Also I LOVED these since it made finding the pacifier so much easier.

  • A support pillow for feedings and to sit on during the early days after childbirth. I also recommend a liner, and you’ll want a cover of course.

  • Humidifier for everyday use and especially for when Baby gets a cold.

  • Easy-to-use highchair. (I have the Lalo highchair, but I don’t recommend it. The legs are a tripping hazard and the tray is small.)

  • Baby clothes! A few things here: Size up, not down. Choose side-snap onesies to be gentler on the umbilical cord. Since babies often touch their faces to soothe themselves, you may want to skip using mittens.

  • Cash for extra purchases after Baby arrives.

Sometimes people surprise you with gifts not on your list (they mean well, bless them). It’s totally okay to whisper a gentle nudge in your invites to pop in a gift receipt with their presents. If they don’t, returning for store credit is an option.

Selecting the perfect items for a little one you’ve yet to meet can be challenging. Once your baby arrives, you’ll discover what they prefer, what soothes them, and what they enjoy. Remember, the baby registry is just a starting point. Focus on providing your baby with love and patience as you both navigate this journey together.
